May 30, 2025: The Colombian government's condolences for the deaths in Pakistan following Operation Sindoor, rather than showing sympathy for the victims of the Pahalgam terror assault, have disappointed MP Shashi Tharoor.
Tharoor headed an all-party parliamentary delegation that arrived in Colombia on Thursday to express India's resolute commitment to combating terrorism in all of its manifestations. Tharoor reaffirmed India's strong anti-terrorist position, saying the nation resolved that the Pahalgam terror assault could not go unpunished and carried out Operation Sindoor, which involved attacks on terrorist infrastructure.
"India experienced a horrific terrorist attack on the 22nd of April," Tharoor told reporters in Bogota. The globe came together to denounce the terrorist assault at that time, but that was the extent of it. Not even Pakistan, the nation from which these individuals had fled, took any action. There was no attempt at prosecution, and no one was taken into custody. India made the decision that such indignation could not be tolerated. India decided to attack identified terror locations and launch pads on May 7.
A photo of Pakistani Army officials attending terrorists' funerals following India's attack on their terror facilities was also displayed by Tharoor. According to Tharoor, Pakistan offers terrorists a safe haven where they may continue their training. "One of the terrorists on the sanctions list had a widely reported funeral there (in Pakistan). Senior Pakistani police and military officers in uniform attended that burial. That is the level of cooperation we are witnessing between terrorists who carry out such crimes and those who fund, mentor, train, arm, and equip them, as well as give them a safe haven to carry out their training and other heinous acts," he stated.
Instead of showing sympathy for the victims of the Pahalgam terror incident, Tharoor said he was disappointed by the Colombian government's condolences for the deaths in Pakistan. "We were a little disappointed with the Colombian government's response, which seemed to offer deep regrets for the deaths in Pakistan following the Indian strikes, instead of showing sympathy for the victims of terrorism," he said.
According to the Congress MP, India is just using its right to self-defense. "We will inform our Colombian friends that people who support terrorism and those who oppose them cannot be compared. The people who attack and those who defend cannot be compared. We are merely using our right to self-defense, and we are here to clear up any confusion that may exist around this fundamental right.
We would be delighted to discuss the situation in greater detail with Colombia. As I mentioned, we have pretty specific evidence. In actuality, the Resistance Front, a branch of the Lashkar-e-Taiba with headquarters in Muridke, Pakistan, quickly claimed responsibility for this terrorist attack," Tharoor stated.
