Bengaluru stampede: Police restrained by high court from using force against Karnataka cricket officials

June 6, 2025: In an interim order issued on Friday, the Karnataka High Court directed the state police to refrain from using coercion against the KSCA office-bearers in relation to the stampede outside the Chinnaswamy stadium in this city, which resulted in the deaths of eleven persons, pending further instructions.President Raghuram Bhat, secretary A Shankar, and treasurer ES Jayaram of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) went to court in an attempt to have the FIR against them dismissed.
The KSCA officials were given temporary respite by Justice SR Krishna Kumar, who heard the case.
On June 16, the hearing was postponed.
Advocate General Shashi Kiran Shetty represented the state, while senior attorneys Ashok Haranahalli and Shyam Sundar defended the petitioners.
The case was postponed till June 9 by the court, which was also considering a different appeal submitted by Royal Challengers Bengaluru's marketing head, Nikhil Sosale.
