June 17, 2025: A technical issue with one of the engines on an Air India flight from San Francisco to Mumbai necessitated the deplaning of passengers during a scheduled stop early on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

Due to mandatory checks on Boeing 787-8 aircraft, an Air India flight from Delhi to Zurich on June 15 arrived late in Switzerland just before the nighttime curfew. Although Flight AI180 made it to the airport on time at 00:45 p.m., a technical issue with the left engine caused the takeoff to be delayed. A midair technical issue caused an Air India flight to return to Hong Kong shortly after takeoff on Monday.

The airline issued a statement stating that the flight, AI 315, landed safely in Hong Kong and that all passengers had disembarked. The statement also stated that the aircraft is the subject of an inspection. At about 05:20 hrs, an announcement was made in the aircraft asking all the passengers to deplane.

"A technical issue caused the flight AI315, which was traveling from Hong Kong to Delhi on June 16, 2025, to return to Hong Kong shortly after takeoff. The flight landed safely at Hong Kong and is undergoing checks as a matter of abundant precaution. According to Air India, "alternative arrangements have been planned to fly the passengers to their destination Delhi as soon as possible." The decision was made to ensure the safety of the flight, the plane's captain informed the passengers.
