Farmers in Punjab stage tractor rallies to protest the AAP government's proposal to acquire land.

July 30, 2025: The Samyukt Kisan Morcha's tractor rally of farmers from various unions began in Punjab villages to protest the state government's proposal to acquire land under its Land Pooling Policy. The biggest show of strength by farmers is being witnessed in Ludhiana district, where 45,861 acres of land is proposed to be acquired. This includes 24,311 acres of land for residential purposes and 21,550 acres for setting up industrial zones.
The tractor rally had been planned in Kumkalan, Balion, Dakha, Jodha, and Jagraon, according to SKM leader Balbir Singh Rajewal, as reported in The Tribune. “This will be the biggest-ever march in recent times, as the public in rural areas want to show their anger against the bid to take over their fertile lands and displace them from their homes,” he said.
Tractor rallies have been planned in 116 villages of the state.
AAP MLA releases video in bid to placate community:
Seeing the anger of farmers against the Land Pooling Policy, AAP MLA from Ropar Dinesh Chada released a video in which he assured them that if they had not given their assent to the policy, not even an inch of their land would be acquired by the state. However, when contacted, he refused to comment over the issue. Earlier, AAP MP from Anandpur Sahib parliamentary constituency Malvinder Singh Kang had openly spoken against the Punjab Government policy.
Kejriwal presses the Punjab Chief Minister to implement policy: BKU In Ropar, hundreds of farmers launched the rally, raising sloagans against the AAP government. Bhartiya Kisan Union district president Surjeet Singh Dher alleged that AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal was pressuring Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann to enforce the policy. He stated that farmers would not give up their land for any reason. Dharna at Fatehgarh Sahib DC office:
A dharna against the Punjab Government was started by hundreds of farmers, led by SKM leaders, in front of the DC office in Fatehgarh Sahib. Besides, BJP workers, led by district president Didar Singh Bhatti, staged a sit-in on the other side of the DC office against this policy.
At the Sangrur DC office complex, the rally ends: The farmers' rally, which began in Sohian village near Sangrur and ended at the district's DC office complex.
