Aug 5, 2025: On Tuesday, a flash flood and landslide destroyed half of the Dharali village in the Harshil area of Uttarkashi, leaving several people missing.

Silt-carrying water cascades into the community. It is feared that many people are trapped. Teams working in disasters have rushed to the scene.

The horrifying video showed floodwaters rushing down a mountain and crashing into the village, destroying houses, a road, and anything else in their path. Panicked screams could be heard from the crowd.

There were 20 to 25 hotels and homestays in the village, but many were washed away. "There was likely to be damage because of an increase in water levels in the Harshil area of Uttarkashi," the Uttarakhand Police Department warned residents in a post on X, urging them to avoid rivers.

Relentless monsoon rains continued to lash Uttarakhand, affecting daily life across several districts for the fifth consecutive day.
