Aug 6, 2025: A statutory resolution to extend President's Rule in Manipur beyond August 13 was approved by Parliament on Tuesday.
The Rajya Sabha today approved the resolution that was approved by the Lok Sabha last week in response to opposition protests over the revision of Bihar's electoral rolls.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said that a court order caused a divide between two Manipur communities, which led to the resolution's passage in the House.
A court order caused a divide between two Manipur communities. It is incorrect to refer to it as communal violence. It has been eight months since the President’s Rule was imposed in Manipur, adding only one incident of violence has been reported,” Rai said.
Later, the Rajya Sabha approved the resolution with a voice vote.
