Aug 8, 2025: Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen Anil Chauhan on Thursday released the declassified versions of the joint doctrines on cyberspace and amphibious operations.
The declassified versions of the doctrines, which were officially released last year, have now been made available online for the general public, as well as academics, think tanks, and researchers. According to the Ministry of Defence, the declassification demonstrates India's dedication to increasing the visibility, accessibility, and spread of joint warfighting concepts. A unified strategy for safeguarding national cyberspace interests is laid out in the "Joint Doctrine for Cyberspace Operations." It integrates offensive and defensive cyber capabilities and enables synchronised operations across the three Services. The doctrine stresses threat-based planning, resilience building, real-time intelligence integration and the development of joint cyber capabilities.
The “Joint Doctrine for Amphibious Operations” provides a framework for planning and conducting amphibious missions by integrating maritime, air and land forces. Interoperability, quick response, and the use of joint force to influence ashore operations are all emphasized. The CDS has also initiated the development of several new doctrine primers covering both contemporary and specialised areas of warfare. Military space operations, special forces operations, airborne operations, integrated logistics, and multi-domain operations will all be covered in these doctrines. In order to facilitate efficient planning and seamless execution of joint military operations, these doctrines aim to provide stakeholders and policymakers with a standardized language and set of guidelines. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh declared 2025 the "Year of Reforms" earlier this year. The office of the CDS is currently working on ‘Vision 2047’, a long-term strategic document expected to be released later this year. It will outline the envisioned role of the armed forces in 2047 and guide preparations for future conflicts.
