Aug 12, 2025: India will not give in to "nuclear blackmail," according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), which strongly reacted to Pakistan army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir's remarks directed at India.
It said that Islamabad was "nuclear sabre-rattling" and asked the world to pay attention to the "irresponsibility" of such threats. In response to Munir's statement made in the United States, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated today, "We will continue to take all steps necessary to safeguard our national security." As he urged the international community to "draw its own conclusions on the irresponsibility inherent in such remarks (of Munir)," Jaiswal stated, "Nuclear sabre-rattling is Pakistan's stock-in-trade." Jaiswal referred to the fears about the safety of nukes in Pakistan, saying: “It also reinforces the well-held doubts about the integrity of nuclear command and control in a state where the military is hand-in-glove with terrorist groups.”
"It was regrettable that the remarks should have been made from the soil of a friendly third country," the US, according to the MEA spokesperson. “If we go down, we will take down half the world,” the Pakistani army chief said yesterday while on his second visit to the United States since Operation Sindoor. He was speaking at an event hosted by a Pakistan national at Tampa, Florida.
India's decision to halt implementation of the Indus Waters Treaty was also questioned by the Field Marshal. According to reports, he stated, "We will wait for India to build a dam, and when it does so, we will destroy it with ten missiles."
