Aug 18, 2025: From August 17 to 19, the Meteorological Department has issued yet another alert for flash floods and cloudbursts in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the Meteorological Center in Srinagar, from August 17 to 19, many places will experience light to moderate rain or thunder, with heavy rain in a few places in the Jammu division, including Reasi, Udhampur, Rajouri, Poonch, Samba, and Kathua. Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, and a few other locations in the Kashmir division could also see moderate to heavy showers with gusty winds. The weather will be generally hot and humid from August 20 to 22, with brief thundershowers in a few locations.

However, a new period of light to moderate rain and thundershowers is anticipated from August 23 to 25, with occasional heavy downpours. The weatherman has issued an advisory stating that there is possibility of cloudburst and flashfloods at few vulnerable places with landslides, mudslides and shooting stones during August 17-19.

“Stay away from water bodies/ streams/ nallas/ river embankments/ loose structures, etc. The advisory stated, "Travelers, transporters, tourists, and trekkers are advised to plan accordingly." Interesting fact: on August 12 and 13, the MeT department had issued warnings about heavy rains in the Chenab region, where Kishtwar is, but the administration allegedly ignored them, resulting in a tragedy that killed many people.
