Aug 18, 2025: According to officials, the Army deployed helicopters and several columns on Sunday in the Jodh Ghati village of Kathua district, which was affected by the cloudburst. The calamity struck the village and Janglote amid heavy overnight rains, leaving seven persons dead.

According to the officials, a number of Army columns were brought into the affected areas to rescue stranded individuals and transport the injured to hospitals. An Army helicopter deployed for rescue operations in Ghatti airlifted 15 people to hospital, they added.

Injured patients were transported by Dhruv helicopters to a Punjabi hospital in Pathankot. According to the officials, Rising Star Corps troops are working on the ground with the police, SDRF, and locals to rescue families and provide food and medical care. After seven people died in landslides caused by rain in the district, Kathua Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Sharma, who is in charge of the operation, said that relief and rescue efforts are underway. Kathua has been severely damaged by heavy rainfall, and sadly, we have also lost lives.

In Janglote, there were five fatalities, seven injuries, and two more deaths. Despite the persistent connectivity issues, we are ensuring the availability of essential items. Efforts are being made to provide supplies by air,” he said.
