Aug 19, 2025: After meeting with US President Donald Trump and European leaders on Tuesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that security guarantees for Kyiv will probably be worked out within ten days. “Security guarantees will probably be 'unpacked' by our partners, and more and more details will emerge. At a broadcast press briefing following his meetings, Zelenskyy stated, "All of this will somehow be formalized on paper within the next week to 10 days."
On Monday, Trump told Zelenskyy that if there was a deal to end Russia's war in Ukraine, the United States would help ensure the country's safety, though the exact amount was not immediately clear. “It is important that the United States is sending a clear signal that it will be among the countries helping to coordinate and will also be a participant in the security guarantees for Ukraine,” Zelenskyy said. "I believe this is a significant advance." Zelenskyy said that his meeting with Trump on Monday was his "best" so far, despite the fact that the meetings in Washington made it appear that a peace deal was far from possible.
Additionally, he stated that territorial issues would be discussed bilaterally with Russian President Vladimir Putin and that Ukraine was prepared to meet with Russia in "any format." However, no dates for a potential meeting with Moscow have yet been set. Zelenskyy stated, "The question of territories is something we will leave between me and Putin." He added that a part of security guarantees for Ukraine is a package of US weapons “which primarily includes aircraft, air defence systems,” among others.
“There indeed is a package with our proposals worth $90 billion,” Zelenskyy said.
Additionally, we have agreements with the US President to purchase Ukrainian drones when our exports begin. This is significant to us.
