The Jammu and Kashmir administration’s move to ‘whitelist’ a minuscule amount of websites has left its own departments in the blacklist, including the websites of Raj Bhawan, High Court, Home and the Information Department.

The whitelist of websites, which the administration had made accessible via the low-speed 2g Internet, is so random that most of the government’s departmental websites are in the blacklist.

The blacklisted websites include those of divisional administrations of Kashmir and Jammu, the district administration websites, the Information Department – which is the public relations wing of the administration, the Finance Department and the Information Technology Department.

The websites of the Agriculture and the Horticulture Departments, the Meteorological Department, Flood Control Department and the Municipal Corporation are on the blacklist.

The low-speed Internet was restored in Jammu and Kashmir last month after a record-long suspension that lasted 174 days. However, the administration restricted access to the world wide web, which has nearly two billion websites and allowed access to 300-odd websites.
