Hall of Fame, the star tourist attraction of Leh reopens the Ladakh summers tourist season of 2017 with a grand ‘Military band display’ last evening in Ladakh region.
The opening ceremony was graced by Chief Executive Councilor, Dr Sonam Dawa Lonpo, Lieutenant General PJS Pannu, General Officer Commanding, Fire & Fury Corps, civil dignitaries, Army officers, Ex-servicemen and gallantry award winners.
The ‘Hall of Fame’ was initially established in 1986 to showcase the valour and sacrifice of the Indian Army and also to display the rich culture and heritage of the Ladakh region. In 2015, a major renovation-cum-expansion project was initiated to provide better perspective and experience to the visitors.
The renovated ‘Hall of Fame’ was rededicated to the people of Ladakh on June 13, 2016. This ‘Hall of Fame’ had topped the list of five Indian museums which figured in the list of best 25 museums of Asia. This emerged in a survey by ‘Trip Advisor’ which ranked the museums as per views expressed by travelers. ‘Hall of Fame’ at Leh was voted as a “Must Visit” place by travellers in the survey in September 2016.
A large number of spectators had gathered to watch the military band display. The military band played and marched in changing formations to tunes like ‘Kadam Kadam Badhaye Ja’ and ‘Sare Jahan Se Aachha’ among other military tunes. This was followed by a ‘Fusion Band Display’ which played ‘Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon’, ‘Raag Yaman’ and other soulful music. The display inspired patriotic feelings among the spectators and was a great hit among them.
