Teaching in four government educational institutes, including a degree college, was suspended today as a precautionary measure in view of clashes between students and security forces at various places in the Kashmir Valley yesterday.

Officials here said class work at Government Degree College Handwara, Government Boys Higher Secondary School (HSS) Handwara and Government Girls HSS Handwara in Kupwara district will remain suspended today as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile, they said district administration has also ordered suspension of teaching work in Government Boys HSS Budgam in central Kashmir. Yesterday, the security forces had resorted to aerial firing and burst teargas shells to disperse students, who were protesting against use of alleged disproportionate force in educational institutes during the past more than three weeks.

The protests by students were triggered by a security force raid on Degree College Pulwama on April 15, when more than 50 students, including girls, were injured in the clashes.
