Nirmal Kumar is son of Rattan Lal, a farmer from small village of Sheeri, situated around 20 km from district headquarters.

“It’s a dream come true for my brother. He always wanted to be become a mountaineer, but due to financial constrains and being the eldest among five siblings, he preferred to become an engineer to support the family,” Ranu Devi, Nirmal Kumar’s younger sister, said.

“Nirmal had completed his high school from Government Higher Secondary School, Khelani, and done mechanical engineering from Srinagar. Four years back he joined the ONGC in Mumbai,” she added.
“He reached Nepal base camp and called us as he was very happy and excited and wanted to share his happiness with us. We are also feeling very proud and waiting for his return,” she said.

Deputy Commissioner, Doda, Bhupinder Kumar appreciating the efforts of the young man of a small village in Doda said, “Nirmal has done us proud and his achievement has inspired many youngsters to become a mountaineer to fulfil their dreams.”
