Life was today affected due to strike in the apple township of Sopore and adjoining areas in north Kashmir district of Baramulla, where two local Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants were killed in an encounter with the security forces at Bomai.

There were incidents of stone pelting at few places but the agitators were chased away. A complete spontaneous shutdown was observed in Bomai and nearby villages in protest against the killing of two militants in an encounter yesterday.

Two soldiers were also injured in the incident. Traffic was also off the roads. A partial bandh was, however, observed in the apple township of Sopore and adjoining areas though there was no strike call from any organisation. Majority shops remained closed and traffic was also off the roads. However, some private and passenger vehicles could be seen plying on some routes. Additional security forces and state police personnel remained deployed in strength to prevent any violence.

Apple township has been witnessing stone pelting after Friday prayers every week. There were few incidents of stone pelting this morning also. However, security forces chased away the agitators and restored normalcy.
