The youth of any country or state are considered to be the driving force of tomorrow, but this is not the current scenario in the valley. With the growing technology, time things have changed a lot earlier people used to be simple with few needs and few earnings. But when compared to today’s era everything has taken a leap. Nowadays, teenagers are concentrating more on drugs rather than studies. People are moving towards this dark phase due to anxiety, depression, stress which mostly results due to failed relationship, poor grades in school, money, ignorance by the parents and availability of drugs.
Extensively used drugs include narcotics, brown sugar, Naas, alcohol, cannabis (charas), opiates (like codeine, heroin, morphine), benzodiazepines (sleeping pills, like alprax, valium), Inhalants (like Fevicol SR, glue, paint thinner, petrol, shoe polish etc.)
As per a survey was done by United Nations Drug Control Programme (UNDCP), there are more than 70,000 drug abusers in the valley among which 4000 are women. This covers 65% to 70% students both male and female. According to the Govt psychiatric disease hospital statistics, 90% drug users are from 17 to 35 years of age. Knowing the current situation there are plenty of immoral people who are cultivating poppy (drugs) and cannabis for their monetary benefits.
Regular intake of theses hazardous drugs will lead to a severe headache, confused state, psychosis, leprosy, sickness, fever, shivers, foul breath, loosening teeth and eyebrow, warming of blood, damaged intestines, burning sensation in stomach, failure of liver, destroyed body organs, weak heart and vision, drying body fluids which can lead to unexpected death, fail the mind, tuberculosis and edema.
To recover from this condition the patient has to get in touch with the counselor for motivational assessment and encouragement followed by medical review, investigations, scanning for HIV, HBV, HCV and various another scanning. Patients even undergo Yoga, gymnasium, recreation and meditation regime.
Parents should spend quality time with their children and should have a more friendly approach towards them so that they can know about the activities going in a child’s life. Parents should keep an eagle eye on their wards so that they may not end up their life in such troublesome scenario.
