Chairman of Democratic Freedom Party Shabir Ahmad Shah was on Wednesday allegedly attacked by inmates in Patiala court police lockup in New Delhi.
In a statement, a spokesman of DFP said Shah was brought from Tihar jail on Wednesday morning and lodged in Patiala court lock-up room “where other prisoners, who were also to be produced before the court, conspired to attack him.”

“They started showering abuses on him and in the meantime, two prisoners told Shah to immediately manage his way out from the lock-up by saying that the boys are planning to attack him,” the spokesman said. “As Shah shouted for help, a policeman passing by came to his rescue and in the meantime, other police officers came and shifted Shah to a separate lock-up room on the court.”
The spokesman said the above statement was given by Shah in the court room and was endorsed by the police personnel accompanying him. “This clearly shows that a conspiracy is being hatched by the government to kill Shabir Ahmad Shah,” he alleged.
The spokesman said an application has been already forwarded to DG prisons, IG prisons and other superintendents of Tihar Jail to shift Shah to high-security zone keeping in view the “threat to his life in Tihar,” but “nothing has been done till date and the application still remains unanswered.”

Meanwhile, a court in Delhi extended the judicial custody of Shah, arrested on charges of money laundering, till August 31.
