Criticising the authorities concerned at helm of affairs for ignoring the sensitive issue of increasing drug menace in J and K especially in Jammu province and also its failure in detecting the activities of drug mafia, which are increasing day by day, Team Jammu on Sunday appealed to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to intervene and save the lives of younger generation. A unanimous viewpoint in this regard came during the meeting of volunteers of Team Jammu chaired by its Chairman Zorawar Singh Jamwal, here on Sunday. While reviewing the overall campaign launched by Team Jammu in past over two years, the team members aired their views with the unanimous demand of making more stringent laws to deal drug cartels with an iron fist. They also demanded strict directions to police brass to first set its own house right and who so ever irrespective of their ranks, who are a hand-in glove with narcotic smugglers must also be booked under the appropriate sections of law. While addressing the members of Team Jammu, Chairman, Zorawar Singh Jamwal expressed shock over the ignorance of State Government in setting up Special Courts to deal with cases under NDPSA for speedy trial followed by punishment to the accused. "it is unfortunate that on one side drug mafia is spoiling life of younger generation, who are considered to be future of the State, while on the other hand, the State Government seems to be little bothered to take a step forward in establishing Special Courts, despite directions by J and K High Court as well as Supreme Court," pointed out Jamwal. While giving details of number of death toll due to drug addiction of the youth in the age group of 16 to below 40 years in Jammu province over past three years, Chairman Team Jammu, Jamwal made a fervent appeal to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti even as being Home Minister of J and K to immediately pass directions for setting up of Special Courts and also appoint Special Public Prosecutors, who are well versed with the NDPS Act, and also Special Investigators to ensure NDPSA cases don't end up in acquittals. "Besides Chief Minister, you are a mother as well. And nobody has to tell a mother how to protect children from all ills. Do intervene before it's too late and J and K become Udta Punjab in days to come," appealed Zorawar to Chief Minister. Among others who spoke during the meeting included Rajesh Kapoor, Advocate Alisha Kohli, Surinder Sharma, Ashok Kumar, Er Chandan Datta, Sunil Raipuria, Johny Jojra, Yogesh Kumar, Narinder Sharma, Dr Twinkle Gupta, Dr Ashish Gupta, Kaushal Sharma, Sumit Dasgotra, Rishu Chib, Abhijeet Jamwal, Sachin Singh and Raju Sharma.
