Five day MIME workshop in Jammu University

The first ever Mime Festival and Workshop in the State, organized by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India and Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu concluded here today at Brig Rajinder Singh Auditorium Jammu.
Prof R D Sharma, Vice Chancellor was the Chief Guest on the occasion and was overwhelmed by the outcome of the unique event, which he termed as historic and highly meaningful for University students. Speaking on the occasion, Prof R D Sharma expressed happiness on the conduct of such workshop under the guidance of world renowned Mime Artist, Padamshri Niranjan Goswami. Prof Sharma said that such workshops not only chisel the talent of students but also help in channelizing their energy towards positive direction along with their routine studies. He said that along with education, art and cultural activities play an important role in shaping career of the students. “Such activities go hand in hand and should be made a regular feature for students so that they get sufficient exposure to face real life challenges,” added Prof Sharma. He further exhorted upon the students to become creative and participate in such activities for overall development.
Earlier, Regional Director, ICCR Jammu & Kashmir, Balwant Thakur dwelt in details about the ICCR initiatives aimed at engaging young talent of the State in achieving proficiency in arts and performing arts. He further said that there is no dearth of talent in Jammu particularly youth, which has the capacity and capability to match International standards, but they require a right platform, exposure, and encouragement. For this ICCR will make all out efforts to nourish and support the local talent, he added. Balwant Thakur expressed gratitude towards the University of Jammu and Padamshri Niranjan Goswami for the success of the event.
