The Swedish carmaker, Volvo Cars took the wraps off the highly anticipated XC40 compact SUV in Milan. The 2017 Volvo XC40 is the smallest and the first SUV to be rolled out from the brand’s new 40-series. It’s also the first Volvo to be designed on the EV-ready modular platform, which is jointly developed with owner Geely. In India, the new XC40 will face a challenge from cars like Jaguar E-Pace, BMW X1, Audi Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA.

The carmaker claims that the new Volvo XC40 will be the safest car in its league, and offer a clutter-free and highly functional cabin. Interestingly, the production-ready model of the compact SUV stays true to the XC40 SUV Concept 40.1. Most of the styling elements are borrowed from the XC90, especially the front and rear profile shares a great resemblance. Sporting tall taillights, sporty rear bumper, and spoiler, the compact crossover manages to look different from its elder siblings. Dimensionally, this new Volvo will be similar to the current generation XC60.

The XC40 will be the first Volvo car to be based on the brand’s new modular CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) platform. Interior will brim with advanced comfort and connectivity equipment including a large vertical touchscreen infotainment system on the center stage, chrome control dials on both side and several in-car controls. The multi-functional steering wheel will be carried over from the other Volvo cars. Read – Volvo V90 Cross Country: First Drive Review
