JK Public School, Kunjwani organised workshop on use of corporal punishment and how to deal effectively with the parents.
The workshop was conducted by Dr. Chand Trehan, renowned Counsellor and Psychologist of Jammu and it was attended by more than 140 teaching faculty of JKPS. The purpose of the workshop was to sensitise the teachers and stakeholders against the use of corporal punishment and how a positive and supportive relationship between a teacher and a student, a parent and a child, can be developed on mutual understanding, empathy and trust, and to enable the teachers, school administrators, parents and members of community to effectively deal with children in classrooms/ homes by positive discipline.
Dr. Chand said children are amongst the most vulnerable sections in any society representing one-third of the world population and it is basic responsibility of teachers and parents to develop an enabling environment for holistic development of the children. Corporal punishment is not only a physical abuse; it is verbal, mental and emotional as well. It does not help the children, it brings down their self esteem, takes them mentally away from parents and teachers. She emphasised that we must take care while dealing with children.
Dr. Chand has been serving the State of Jammu and Kashmir and CBSE since 2000 as Counsellor, Psychologist and Mentor to many schools and adolescents in particular. She is Master Trainer in the field of Adolescent Education, HIV/AIDS, Comprehensive Health Programme and Gender Sensitivity.
The workshop was educative, enriching and effective and was appreciated by one and all.
