A strong protest was held by the people of Basohli Constituency against their legislature and the Roads and Building Department for not completing the four-kilometer road to Basant Nagar for the last three years.
The protesters blocked the Lakhanpur – Basant Pur road and alleged that the project for construction of four-kilometer long road at a cost of Rs 4.97 crore was allotted to Sohan Singh, the brother of MLA Basohli and Cabinet Minister Choudhary Lal Singh, who failed to complete the work though the date of completion has expired long back and the villagers are made to suffer lot of difficulties. They further alleged that the Government at the behest of Choudhary Lal Singh is not taking action against the contractor who has failed to complete his contractual commitments.
The protesters including Prem Singh, Mohinder Singh, Rani Devi, Sunita Devi, Dhian Singh, Ram Singh, Koushalya Devi and Rakesh Kumar said that the portion of road beyond the stretch allotted to Sohan Singh Contractor, has long back been completed and black-topped while the road stretch in question still needs black-topping. The protesters further said that during elections Choudhary Lal Singh made big promises but after winning election, he never visited the people to fulfill the commitments.
The people appealed to the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to visit Basohli Constituency and take stock of the grievances of the people.
