8,935 enquiries of different Deptts pending with DVOs: SVC

The State Vigilance Commission (SVC) has said that 8,935 enquiries are pending with Vigilance Officers of different Government departments for the last over nine years.
According to the 4th annual report of J&K State Vigilance Commission tabled in the Upper House by the Minister for R&B, Naeem Akhter on behalf of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, it has been revealed that a total 8935 enquiries are pending with the Vigilance Officers of different Government departments.
It was also revealed that the highest number of 2,163 cases are pending for disposal with the Department Vigilance Officers (DVOs) of Revenue and Relief department.
The data provided by the SVC further disclosed that 1174 such enquiries pertains to Education department, 823 Rural Development Department, 517 Police Department, 431 Social Welfare Department, 394 Health and Med Education, 392 Public Health Engineering, 377 Forest, 310 with Municipality, 198 CAPD and 209 with private persons, among others.
The report further said that statements of complainants and enquiries and complaints referred to various departments from time to time by the State Vigilance Organisation presented a dismal picture as hardly any complaint was found disposed off by any department.
It was accordingly felt expedient to review the pendency on this count with various departments, the SVC report said, adding after the review, over 1,500 cases were disposed off after action.
The SVC report revealed that out of the 2163 inquiries/ complaints of Revenue department, the action was taken in respect of just 100 cases, while 2063 were still pending. Out of the 823 complaints of RDD, action was taken in just 51 cases while 772 were still pending. Of the 512 cases of Housing and Urban Development, action was taken in respect of 195 cases while 317 were pending. Out of the 1174 cases of Education department, just 165 were resolved while action was still pending in respect of 1009 cases.
Out of the 274 cases of Food & Supplies Deptt, action was taken in respect of only 14 cases, while 260 cases were still pending. Of the total 383 cases of PWD (R&B), action has been taken in respect of just 9 cases while 374 were pending, whereas, out of total 547 cases of PHE, I&FC action has been taken in respect of 25 cases while 522 were still pending and so on.
