The J&K government on Wednesday informed the Legislative Assembly (LA) that it has spent an amount of Rs 32.40 lakh on at least 20 non-government organisations (NGOs) in the state.

The social welfare minister in his written reply informed the House that all these NGOs are registered by the state. As per the figures, an amount of Rs 16 lakh was provided as grant-in-aid to eight NGOs registered in Jammu.
The minister said the House that Rs 5.75 lakh was provided as grant-in-aid to three registered NGOs in Srinagar district during the year 2061-17.
Rs 4.25 lakh was provided to three NGOs in Baramulla, Rs 2 lakh to two registered NGOs in Kulgam, Rs 2 lakh to two NGOs in Budgam, Rs 1 lakh to an NGO in Anantnag and Rs 1.40 lakh to an NGO in Ganderbal.
