SSP Railways Katra Ranjit Singh Sambyal on Thursday held a meeting with the officers of both the Sub Divisions of GRP Katra in order to discuss the security of railways in the jurisdiction of GRP Katra which is safeguarding about 66 Kms railway track from Km 12.500 (Sangar) to Railway Station Katra, passes through hilly areas of three districts viz. Jammu, Udhampur and Reasi and all the area is vulnerable from security point of view as there are dense forests with deep gorges/Nallahs located in the area.
SSP Railways putforth the ideas of using advance technology like surveillance through drone and installations of CCTVs cameras at tunnels and bridges for detecting the crime and anti-sabotage well in advance to avoid any mishap. To avoid the incidents of suicide, land sliding during the rainy season, running up of animals at the track and attempts of anti-sabotage of the tracks, it is suggested that the use of new technology is the need of the hour to keep the entire railway track as well as its surroundings including rehabilitants nearby the track under constant surveillance. In the centre of 66 Kms track a control room is required to be established, jointly monitored by GRP, railways and RPF personnel, from where the whole railway track could be kept under constant surveillance.
Railway authorities will separately be approached for the sanction of at least three drones with handlers to get the whole area under surveillance. It is also suggested that the CCTVs cameras be installed in long tunnels in the area so that advance information could be collected and shared with the train drivers, station masters and deployed security personnel to avoid any mishap.
