While the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had made a fervent appeal for ceasefire during the holy Ramzan, which reportedly was outrightly rejected by the Centre but will terrorists remain silent and go on truce mode for one-month period is a million dollar question.
As per reports, around 70 terrorists have been eliminated by the security forces including top most commanders so far this year. In January 13 terrorists were killed, in February 6, in March 23, in April 19 and so far in May, eight have been neutralised.
In 2017, a total of 220 terrorists were killed under the operation ‘Flush Out’ by the security forces.
The security forces were also able to persuade 82 youth to abandon terrorism and return back to lead normal life. 78 security personnel were also martyred in terrorism related violence.
As per intelligence sources, terrorists have refused to ceasefire even during the holy month of Ramzan, starting from May 16 and ending on June 14, which has prompted the security forces and the Army to remain on tenterhook and gear up for major operations in the days to come.
“The annual Amarnath Yatra is also going to begin from June 2 and in view of Pakistan planning to push in terrorists via Line of Control with an aim to disrupt the peaceful yatra, despite the fact that Ramzan month will be in progress,” sources said.
They said that the Centre has already chalked out a strategy to tighten noose around the anti-national and the anti-social elements with focus on anti-terror operations in the coming days in the Valley.
“Pakistan is making all attempts to push in terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir to disturb peace during Amarnath Yatra falling next month. Army is busy foiling cross border infiltration attempts ensuring the terrorists “infiltrated” should not reach the valley and must be tackled in the hinterland,” sources added.
“The holy month may see spurt in violence despite appeals from various sections including the fundamentalist forces, who have been asked to stay away from interfering into the actions and operations to be executed by the terrorists,” sources asserted.
