Tata Motors has announced that its premium SUV Harrier will be the official partner for the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The sporting event begins on March 23. The announcement sees the auto major continuing its association that started last year with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

As the official partner, Tata Motors will showcase Harrier across all the stadiums throughout the IPL, with exciting on-ground engagement plans and merchandise. There will also be a Harrier Super Striker award wherein the best striker of the match will stand a chance to win a trophy along with a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh. Besides, the batsman with the highest strike-rate during the tournament will have a chance to drive home Tata Harrier. Additionally, there will be a Harrier Fan Catch award of Rs 1 lakh for anyone taking a catch single-handedly. Harrier will be a part of the IPL Trophy tour, which is being planned across major Indian cities.

Much like the IPL, which is one of the most iconic global cricketing events and is widely celebrated as a platform for budding talent and international cricket legends, Harrier too is known for its exhilarating performance and exciting drive. We have elaborate plans to capture the audience's attention in-stadia, on-air and across digital platforms and hope to drive tremendous value from this association yet again," Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle Business Unit President Mayank Pareek said in a statement.

BCCI Acting Secretary Amitabh Choudhary said: "We are excited to continue our partnership with TATA Motors and have their newly launched SUV Harrier as the official partner of the IPL 2019. Harrier's exhilarating performance is very akin to the muscle that players put in to have the highest batting strike rate and win the Harrier Super Striker award every match and for the season. We look forward to delivering great exposure to both the Harrier brand as well as TATA Motors."

Tata Motors had launched Harrier on January 23 this year at a starting price of Rs 12.69 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Currently, the SUV is powered by a Kryotec 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine churning out 140 bhp at 3,750 rpm and 350 Nm torque at 1,750 rpm. It comes with an Advanced Electronically Controlled Variable Geometry Turbocharger (eVGT) for low-end torque and linear power delivery with low carbon footprint. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission.

Harrier features three drive modes - Eco, City and Sport - combined with similar number of ESP terrain response modes - Normal, Rough and Wet. It is available in five colours - Calisto Copper, Thermisto Gold, Ariel Silver, Telesto Grey and Orcus White.

The SUV comes with a Floating Island 8.8 inch touchscreen infotainment system with high resolution display, supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also gets four speakers, four tweeters, one subwoofer with amplifier and guess what, all are provided by JBL.
