PDD intensifies drive against pilferage of power

Electric M&RE Division-II, Gandhi Nagar of Power Development Department intensified its drive against the pilferage of power and defaulter consumers.
The drive was conducted under the guidance of P.D Singh, Executive Engineer.
During the drive, Feeder Managers conducted 161 inspections in the Green Belt Sub Division.
Five Inspection Teams headed by Sardari Lal, AEE along with AE, Feeder Managers and other field staff conducted inspections in different sections of Sub Division.
During the inspection in Narwal Section, a total of 32 consumers inspected out of which 11 consumers found using ACs by illegally bypassing service lines.
In Sainik Colony section, about 49 consumers inspected out of which 24 found using ACs with illegally bypassed service lines. While, 13 illegal connections in Jhugis were disconnected and service lines as well as heaters were removed and destroyed.
In Bahu Plaza, 35 commercial consumers inspected out of which five illegal service lines removed and advised to regularize the connections, if found connected in future, FIR will be lodged. 20 consumer’s load has been found beyond agreed load and penalty was imposed as per tariff.
In Nanak Nagar about 20 domestic and commercial consumers inspected out of which five illegal service lines removed and penalized. About eight consumers load variation has been found more than agreed load.
In Gandhi Nagar Extension, 30 domestic as well as commercial consumers were inspected in which two consumers load variation has been found resulting in penalty were imposed among defaulters. Besides, a total of 26KW illegal load has been regularized.
All defaulters were penalized under appropriate clause of J&K State Electricity Act.
Further, as per the directions of the Chief Engineer, Electric M&RE Wing, Jammu Sudhir Gupta, PDD officials appealed to the general public to restrict their load during peak hours by setting thermostat temperature at 24 Degree Centigrade; avoid using electric cooking appliances, like heaters, microwave ovens, etc; switch off ACs, fans and light in the rooms not in use and use LED lamps only.
“Moreover, Complaint Centre has also been set up in Green Belt Sub Division Office round the clock with Helpline No: 0191-2430180. Any complaint regarding power can be registered for early redressal,” they said.
Meanwhile, EMRE-III, Jammu adopted multiple measures on day-3 of the ‘Inspection Week’ by conducting night raids as well to check power theft.
During the day time, reportedly, a total of 109 inspections were conducted, detecting 54 irregularities and removing 65 kW illegal load from the system while night raids were still going on in various areas with their reports awaited.
The squads were directed to identify the consumers who resort to illegal hooking during night hours, without entering into their premises and take relevant photographs of power theft as evidence for initiating necessary action under rules against the said consumers on the subsequent day.
Sanjay Sharma, Executive Engineer, EMRE-III, Jammu said that Consumers attach ‘kundis’ mainly during night hours and shift the load of their cooling appliances on to same, which is the foremost cause of conductor snapping, power tripping and primarily, the Distribution transformers also get damaged during the aforesaid period only.”
Earlier during the day, seven teams from Sub-Division-Janipur conducted 96 inspections in Dogra Nagar, Lower Roop Nagar, Thather, Postal Colony, Roop Nagar and other adjoining areas under the leadership of Ashish Badyal, AEE while the team members included Vandana Manhas, Sushma Parihar, Roopesh Pandita, Mohammad Iqbal, Ankush Sharma, Pawan Sharma, Junior Engineers along with their field staff.
Likewise, a team from Sub-Division-Canal under the leadership of Vivek Gupta, AEE conducted 13 inspections in Udheywala and adjoining areas, removing more than 20 ACs and disconnecting power supply to 16 Jhuggis.
