Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar to visit India, celebrate New Year celebration in Goa

The Prime Minister of Ireland Leo Varadkar will celebrate the new year in Goa. He is visiting India on a personal visit. A senior police officer said that he would reach Goa on Monday afternoon. Varadkar's relationship with India is deep because his father is from Maharashtra.

The police officer said that Prime Minister Varadkar is on a completely private journey. There is no official event planned during his visit. He will stay in Goa with his family till January 1.

The official said that he would leave for his country from Dabolim airport in the afternoon on January 1. On Sunday, Varadkar along with his family members went to his ancestral village Varad in Maharashtra's Sindhudurg district.

Varadkar became the Prime Minister of Ireland in June 2017. This is his first visit to the ancestral village. His father Ashok Varadkar was a doctor and moved to Britain in 1960. Varadkar said that it was a special moment for him as three of his generations gathered at Varad and were also honored by the villagers.
