Diplomats from 16 countries including US Ambassador Ken Juster have reached Srinagar on a two-day visit. This is the first official visit of foreign diplomats after the removal of Article 370, which gave special status to the state, on 5 August. These diplomats posted in embassies based in Delhi will take stock of the situation in Srinagar today and will stay overnight here. After this, the next day will go to Jammu.

They will meet Lt. Governor GC Murmu and members of civil society during the diplomatic visit. Apart from the US, the delegation will also include diplomats from Bangladesh, Vietnam, Norway, Maldives, South Korea, Morocco, Nigeria and other countries. The Brazilian ambassador was also scheduled to visit the state but withdrew his name due to his busy schedule in Delhi.

According to officials, the diplomats visiting the state on Thursday will meet the members of the civil society and they will also be made aware of the security situation in the state by various agencies. Officials said diplomats from several countries had requested the government to visit Kashmir. The visit is part of the government's efforts to make foreign diplomats aware of the reality of Pakistan's propaganda on Kashmir.
