On Makar Sankranti, i.e. on Tuesday, at the Vaishno Devi Bhavan, at around 10 in the morning, special worship of the ancient cave of Maa Vaishno Devi will be done. After this, it's being said to open it for the devotees to see. Makar Sankranti is considered the most sacred day.

Traditionally on this day, priests offer special worship to the ancient cave and open the doors to the devotees. But as the Vaishno Devi Yatra started to increase with time, the cave gates have been closed after offering prayers only, but this time the weather is very bad on Makar Sankranti. In such a situation, the number of devotees is expected to be less than 10 thousand. If this happens, the gates of the sacred natural cave will be opened for devotees. Occasionally, the gates of the ancient cave are opened for 3 to four hours to devotees on Makar Sakranti.
