After nearly five months in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, 2G mobile internet service has been restored in five districts of Jammu division. This facility will be available only on postpaid mobiles.

Along with this, broad band service has also been started in hotels, hospitals and travel related establishments. This facility will be available in Jammu, Udhampur, Kathua, Samba and Reasi districts. This order will be effective for seven days from 15 January.

Order to this effect was issued by the Home Department on Tuesday. In its three-page order, the Home Department said that an additional 400 Internet kiosks will be set up in Kashmir division. Internet service providers will provide broadband facility (with MAC binding) to all institutions, hospitals, banks as well as government offices with essential services.

To facilitate tourism, broadband internet will be provided to hotels and travel establishments. The order also states that 2G mobile connectivity will be allowed on postpaid mobiles to view secure websites including e-banking in Jammu region.

The order said that mobile Internet service will be restricted in other districts. MAC binding forces the consumer to use a particular IP address.
