Popular voice assistant Alexa is now set to interact with you in your very own “Hindi” and the desi mix of languages called “Hinglish”. 2 years after its launch in India Alexa gets this much-awaited update.

To set up the voice assistant in Hindi mode all you need to do is to just say, “Alexa, help me set up Hindi”. Users having Echo would also be able to set their language preference to Hindi via setting mode in the Alexa app.

Hindi phrases like “Alexa, apne baare mei batao” would now be easily understood by the device. Alexa in Hindi would also be available on speakers from Bose. Soon brands like Motorola, MyBox, Boat, Portronics, Fingers, Sony, iBall, and Dish would update their existing Alexa-built in devices to support Hindi and Hinglish.

Alexa would now offer a diverse range of services in Hindi such as jokes, shayaris, games, Kabir ke dohe, Panchatantra stories, Bollywood dialogues, and even spellings of words in Hindi. Amazon is working to add simultaneous multi-language support to the voice assistant. Soon users would be able to speak to Alexa in Hindi and English without changing the language setting back and forth.

This update in Hindi would open the way for more Indian languages to be a part of Alexa’s list. The localization of Alexa to Indian flavor can be the long term plan.
