An army jawan martyr and 3 others were injured in an avalanche in Mashkoh Valley of Drass, Kargil on Thursday. The army rescued 71 trackers stranded on Leh's Chadar track in two days.

In Mashkoh Valley, 4 soldiers were buried under snow after an avalanche hit an army post. After this accident, the army carried out a campaign and drove out the four soldiers, but one of them was martyred. The martyred soldier has not been identified yet. Three other injured soldiers have been admitted to the military hospital in Kargil. So far this month, 13 people, including seven soldiers, have died in avalanches in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

Meanwhile, the army is continuing its campaign to rescue the trackers stranded on Leh's Chadar track. Advanced light helicopters of the Air Force and Army helicopters are taking out the trackers. The tracker sheets were stuck on the track due to flooding in the Zanskar River.

According to the Air Force, efforts are still on to rescue some trackers on the track. The number of these trackers is said to be close to nine, who are stranded in the Padam area. These include French and Chinese citizens. Due to bad weather, it is difficult to take the helicopter to the area, but the jawans are making every effort to get these trackers out of there soon.

The army itself, facing challenges by landing the helicopter on ice last Tuesday, the army had saved six such tourists, whose conditions had become critical due to the cold. Earlier on Sunday, Leh administration rescued 41 trackers. According to Leh administration, more than 130 trackers were stranded on this track. So far, the Army and Air Force have rescued 112 trackers during the ongoing rescue operations since Sunday. Of these, 71 have been evacuated during the last two days. The Leh administration has currently closed the Chadar track for tracking.
