Indian-origin Geeta Sabarwal became UN Resident Coordinator in Thailand

The United Nations has appointed Geeta Sabarwal of Indian origin as her Resident Coordinator in Thailand. Please tell that the UN Resident Coordinator is the top level representative at the national level. The Resident Coordinator is the designated representative of the UN Secretary-General, who reports to the UN chief.

A press release issued by the United Nations stated, "Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, appointed Geeta Sabarwal of India as the U.N.'s Resident Coordinator in Thailand." Sabarwal has served for 25 years in development, peace, administration and social policy in five Asian countries, including the Maldives. He has served as an advisor for peace and development in Sri Lanka for a maximum of seven years.

Prior to joining the United Nations, Sabarwal served as deputy country representative for the Asia Foundation for Maldives and Sri Lanka. In addition, she has served as a Poverty and Policy Advisor in the UK Department for International Development in India and Vietnam.
