Announcement of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir may be announced this week. The date of the visit will be determined at the meeting of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board. The meeting is going to take place this week.

According to the Hindu calendar, the date of the yatra is likely to be declared on an important day between 25 June and 5 July. Usually, the yatra begins on the monthly Shivaratri or any other important day and continues till the full moon (Rakshabandhan) of the Shravan month. The Shrine Board and other related departments plan the pilgrimage as well as the facilities of the devotees.

Recently, the Delegation of Shri Amarnath Barfani Langar Organization (SABLO) met Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu and discussed other issues including the safety of pilgrims. Advance registration for the journey starts from March-April. In states and union territories, advance registration can be done in about four and a half branches of Punjab National Bank, Jammu & Kashmir Bank, and Yes Bank. Experimental online registration also started in 2019.

There was a total of 46 days in 2019, but due to security reasons, the yatra was formally closed on August 1 and advisory was issued to the pilgrims to return home. During this time the journey was also postponed for 15 days. 3.43 lakh devotees visited Baba Barfani during the yatra. Apart from 7500-7500 passengers from Pahalgam-Chandanbadi and Baltal tracks daily, devotees visit Panjtarni helicopter service during the journey.

Those below 13 years and not above 75 years of age are not allowed for Shri Amarnath Yatra to devotees below 13 years and above 75 years of age.
