UP govt presents Rs 5.12 lakh crore budget for 2020-21

The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday presented its budget for the next fiscal starting April 1, 2020. The state government's total budget outlay for 2020-21 is Rs 5,12,860.72 crore, which is Rs 33,159 crore than last year.

The Uttar Pradesh government's budget focuses on infrastructure and creating jobs apart from making provisions worth Rs 10,967.87 crore for new schemes.

Among other notable allocations, Rs 4,000 crore has been announced for Rashtriya Poshan Abhiyaan, a flagship program to improve nutritional outcomes for children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers.

Almost Rs 5,800 crore has been allocated towards the Swachh Bharat Mission. A mammoth Rs 20,000 crore has been set aside for smart city projects in Lucknow, Kanpur and other districts in the state.

It seems that the UP budget for the next fiscal is focused on development as Rs 900 crore has been allotted for development of Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System; another Rs 200 crore for metro facilities in Gorakhpur and other cities.

An additional Rs 358 crore has been allocated for the development of Kanpur Metro. The state government has also allocated Rs 2,000 crore for Jewar airport in Greater Noida and Rs 500 crore for an airport in Ayodhya
