In what could be a shocking news, the health workers and officials engaged in India’s fight against coronavirus were brutally attacked by a mob in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday.

The video of the incident has gone viral since then.

The health officials were trying to trace a person who had come into contact with a coronavirus patient earlier when they were attacked by a mob who pelted stones at them, the police said.

The police officials further said that two women doctors were injured in the attack while adding that a case has been registered.

The incident, which occurred in Indore’s Taat Patti Bakhal area, comes two days after a similar incident in the city’s Ranipura where the officials allegedly abused the officials during screening.

“The moment we started enquiring about that particular person' health, people started protesting and later some of them hurled stones. We were saved by police personnel,” a woman doctor said, as quoted by news agency PTI.

Terming the incident ‘unfortunate’, Indore chief medical and health officer (CMHO) Dr Pravin Jadia assured that the medical personnel were working to protect people from the corona virus infection but they were pelted with stones.

“Two women doctors suffered injuries on their legs in the incident. They somehow protected themselves by hiding inside the vehicle of tehsildar,” Dr Jadia said, as quoted by PTI.

Meanwhile, the police said that a case has been registered at Chhatripura police station.

“We have asked team members to point out those who threw stones. A case under section 353 of the IPC will be registered against those involved in the act,” DIG Harinarayanachari Mishra said, as quoted by Times of India.

Mishra further said that the situation is under control three teams of nearby police station have been deployed in the area.

As many as 63 persons have tested positive for the virus in Indore so far.
