coronavirus cases in India have crossed the 27,000-mark with nearly 1,400 cases reported in the country in the last 24 hours, ending Monday morning. The Covid-19 death toll, meanwhile, has climbed to 872. As many as 48 deaths have been reported in 24 hours. As per the data released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India has 20,835 active cases as of Monday morning.

1. The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in India climbed to 27,892 on Monday, according to the Union Health Ministry. India recorded 1,396 cases in the last 24 hours, ending Monday morning.

2. As per the data released by the Union Health Ministry, the countrywide death toll due to Covid-19 reached 872 on Monday with 48 deaths in the last 24 hours.

3. In the data updated on Monday morning, India's total number of coronavirus positive cases includes 20,835 active cases while 6,185 people have either been cured or discharged and one patient migrated. The total number of cases includes 111 foreign nationals.

4. Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit in terms of number of coronavirus infections in the country and fatalities. As of Monday morning, the total number of cases in Maharashtra crossed the 8,000-mark. At 8,068, Maharashtra has the highest number of Covid-19 cases in India while it has recorded 342 deaths.

5. Maharashtra is followed by Gujarat which has registered over 3,000 cases of novel coronavirus. The death toll in Gujarat has, meanwhile, climbed to 151. It is followed by Delhi at 2,918, Rajasthan at 2185 and Madhya Pradesh at 2,096.

6. The lockdown will not be relaxed beyond what the Centre has suggested, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said as he announced the implementation of the MHA's guidelines on the opening of shops. With the third highest cases in India, Delhi tally stands at 2,918.

7. The number of Covid-19 cases has gone up to 1,885 in Tamil Nadu, 1,097 in Andhra Pradesh and 1,002 in Telangana. The number of cases has risen to 649 in West Bengal, 503 in Karnataka, 523 in Jammu and Kashmir, 458 in Kerala, 313 in Punjab and 289 in Haryana. Bihar has reported 274 coronavirus cases.

8. Five people tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday, raising the state tally of total cases in the state to 108. Seventy-two of the cases in Odisha are active as 35 people have recovered from the disease. A 72-year-old man from Bhubaneswar died due to the contagion on April 6. A total of 25,103 samples have been tested till Sunday in Odisha.

9. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a crucial review meeting with chief ministers via video conferencing on Monday. India’s lockdown exit strategy is on top of the agenda of the third-such meet of the PM with CMs.

10. A security guard deployed at the office of OSD to the Union health minister at AIIMS and a nurse working in Dr BR Ambedkar Institute Rotary Cancer Hospital of the facility had tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday. The entire wing where the OSD office is located is being sanitised and several staffers, including the OSD, is learnt to have been advised self-quarantine. Their samples are also likely to be taken for testing.
