India's Covid-19 cases surge past 29,000. Check how your state is doing

With new 62 fatalities in the last 24 hours, ending Tuesday morning, the death toll due to novel coronavirus has reached 934 in India.

According to the Union Health Ministry’s updated data on Tuesday morning, as many as 62 deaths linked to Covid-19 have been recorded in 24 hours the biggest single-day spike in India. The total number of coronavirus cases in India, meanwhile, has surged past 29,000. More than 1,500 cases in the last 24 hours have taken India’s tally to 29,435.

The total count included 21,632 active cases while 6,868 people have either been cured or discharged while one migrated, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Tuesday.

Here are state-wise details on coronavirus cases in India:

Maharashtra

The number of Covid-19 cases reached 8,590 in Maharashtra on Tuesday morning. Maharashtra recorded 522 cases in last 24 hours. Pune city in Maharashtra, which has reported a rapid spread of coronavirus infection, has been notified as a containment zone till May 3. With over 8,500 cases, Maharashtra has the highest number of Covid-19 cases in India while it has recorded 369 deaths.

Gujarat

Gujarat has been seeing a spike in cases of coronavirus for past few days. As per the Union Health Ministry’s data, Gujarat has a total of 3,548 coronavirus cases as on Tuesday. The death toll has climbed to 162. On Monday, while the cases of infections stood just over 3,000, the death toll was 151. This includes 100 fatalities in Ahmedabad which has higher Covid-19 death rate than national average.

Delhi

The total number of coronavirus cases in Delhi has crossed the 3,000-mark. Now, the tally stands at 3,108 in Delhi. While no fresh death was reported for second successive day on Monday, it remained at 54 on Tuesday too. Delhi government on Tuesday said 877 patients have recovered while active cases stand at 2,177.

Rajasthan

Rajasthan has so far recorded 2,262 cases of novel coronavirus and 46 deaths due to the infection. Jaipur has the highest 833 coronavirus positive cases followed by 375 in Jodhpur. As many as 669 patients have been discharged from hospitals in Rajasthan. Rajasthan Health Minister Dr Raghu Sharma on Monday said the percentage of coronavirus cases is going down in the state as over 87,000 samples have been taken for testing so far.

Madhya Pradesh

The number of Covid-19 cases has gone up to 2,168 in Madhya Pradesh. The PTI tally, however, pegged the number of infections at 2,121 while 302 have recovered in Madhya Pradesh. Of the total deaths in India, after Maharashtra and Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh has the highest number of fatalities (110). Indore in Madhya Pradesh has emerged as a coronavirus hotspot. The district has so far reported over 1,200 Covid-19 cases and 60 deaths.

Tamil Nadu

In the last 24 hours, ending Tuesday morning, Tamil Nadu has seen 52 cases of coronavirus. The state tally stands at 1,937. The death toll has reached 24 in the state with over 1,100 people cured or discharged in Tamil Nadu. Over 80 people were discharged following recovery from Covid-19 on Monday. The active number of cases now stands at 809.

Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh has recorded only six cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours. With these fresh cases, the state has a total of 1,183 coronavirus cases. The state has seen 31 deaths as of Tuesday. Over 230 people have already recovered in Andhra Pradesh. The CM on Monday had said infection rate in Andhra Pradesh was just 1.6 per cent as against the national average of four per cent.

Telangana

In continuation with the downward trend the state has seen in the last four days, Telangana’s tally stands at 1,002 on Tuesday. Only two fresh coronavirus cases and 16 discharges were reported on Monday. The government said that while the active patients stood at 646, the total discharges were 321 and 26 deaths. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao also said on Monday that there were clear indications that Telangana will become a no Covid-19 cases state in the coming few days.

States/UTs with cases less than 1,000

West Bengal, the number of cases has risen to 697 from 649 on Monday. Karnataka, which recorded 511 cases of coronavirus as of Monday, saw an increase of a single case on Tuesday. The state tally now stands at 512 with 193 recovered.

Jammu and Kashmir

has seen as many as 23 cases in the last 24 hours. Total number of cases in Jammu and Kashmir now stands at 546.

Kerala saw 12 more Covid-19 cases, including a US-returned teenaged girl testing positive on Monday, taking the total number of cases in the state so far to 481. As many as 355 people have however recovered in the state. With fresh Bihar saw over 60 new cases, the total has now climbed to 345 in the state. Punjab, meanwhile, has seen 313 positive cases as of Tuesday and Bihar 345.
