India sees highest single-day spike, records 3,900 cases, 195 deaths in 24 hours

According to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India has recorded 3900 cases of coronavirus and 195 deaths in the last 24 hours, ending Tuesday morning.

The death toll due to coronavirus in India crossed the 1,500-mark and the total number of cases surged past 46,433 in India on Tuesday morning, registering an increase of 195 deaths and a record jump of 3,900 cases in the last 24 hours.

This is the highest single-day spike for both total coronavirus cases and related deaths in India.

According to the Union Health Ministry, the number of active Covid-19 cases in India stood at 32,134, while 12,727 people have recovered and one patient has migrated, it said. The total number of coronavirus cases also includes 111 foreign nationals.

Maharashtra has recorded the highest number of fatalities at 583. Gujarat comes second with 319 deaths followed by Madhya Pradesh at 165, West Bengal at 133, Rajasthan at 77, Delhi at 64, Uttar Pradesh at 50 and Andhra Pradesh at 36.

According to the health ministry data updated on Tuesday morning, the highest number of confirmed cases in India are from Maharashtra at 14,541, followed by Gujarat at 5,804, Delhi at 4,898, Tamil Nadu at 3,550, Madhya Pradesh at 2,942, Rajasthan at 3,061 and Uttar Pradesh 2,766.

The number of Covid-19 cases has gone up to 1,650 in Andhra Pradesh and 1,259 in West Bengal.

The cases of infections have risen to 1,233 in Punjab, 1,085 in Telangana, 726 in Jammu and Kashmir, 651 in Karnataka, 528 in Bihar and 500 in Kerala. Haryana has reported 517 coronavirus cases, while Odisha has 169 cases.

A total of 115 people have been infected with the virus in Jharkhand and 102 in Chandigarh, the data said.

Uttarakhand has reported 60 cases, Chhattisgarh has 58 cases, Assam has 43, Ladakh has 41 while Himachal Pradesh has registered 41 cases so far.

Thirty-three cases of coronavirus have been reported from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Tripura has registered 29 cases, Meghalaya 12, Puducherry eight, while Goa has seven Covid-19 cases. Manipur has two cases. Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh have reported a case each.
