The Jammu region has witnessed a major spike in coronavirus positive cases in the past 24 hours, with eight fresh cases being reported from Jammu and Kathua districts, taking the active positive cases in the region to 21.

According to official sources, three members of a family, including a woman and her two children, and a worker hailing from Phinter village in Billawar tehsil of Kathua district, who had recently returned from Sadar Bazaar, New Delhi, and was under administrative quarantine, tested positive for Covid in Kathua district late last evening.

A woman from New Plot, Jammu, who was suffering from renal failure and was admitted to the intensive care unit in Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, tested positive, while a 40-year-old teacher, who was the neighbour of a family of Gurha, Bakshi Nagar, in Jammu whose three members were infected with coronavirus, also tested positive late on Sunday evening. Official reports suggest that two more patients, including one from the Khanpur area of Nagrota and the other from the Bathindi area of Jammu, tested positive. They were at the quarantine centre in Kotbhalwal.

The authorities have restricted all inward and outward movements from the areas from where these cases have been reported. Jammu has reported a total of 77 positive cases so far, out of which 55 patients have recovered successfully, while a woman lost her battle to the virus in Udhampur district.
