Maharashtra reported a massive surge of 1,602 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday as the cumulative tally breached the 27,000 - mark to reach 27,524. Over 40 new deaths were reported, breaching the 1,000-mark. The total number of fatalities stood at 1,019.

Maharashtra government expressed its intent to extend the lockdown in the state till May 31 as BEST Undertaking's biggest trade union called for a complete lockdown of its services from Monday.
