Chairman of All J&K Transport Welfare Association, T S Wazir, while addressing media, here on Wednesday said that since March 15, the transporters have stopped driving on the roads due to the lockdown. “Transporters have been cooperating shoulder to shoulder with all the effective steps taken by the government to prevent corona virus infection. The Central Government issued a relief package for all sections but the transporters were completely ignored. Even though the transporters have not earned any money and have lost crores of rupees during the lockdown, the owners of the various commercial vehicles, realizing their moral responsibility, have helped the drivers and conductors of the vehicles financially. On behalf of the association, the LG has also been informed in writing about the problems being faced by the transporters due to the lock-down, but despite this, the transporters are still waiting for help from the government. Till date no political party has spoken of the interests of transporters.”
He also demanded that since all business activities including the wine shop sare being allowed to function, commercial vehicles too should be allowed to ply on roads.
