DSS volunteers quench birds at save water campaign

Keeping the �Physical distancing� restrictions in mind the Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) observed the annual feature �Quench Birds� �Save Water, Save Birds� initiative on the 23RD June 2020 at the sabha Bhawan and the adjoining Zanana Park and other areas The initiative that was started seven years back by this 116 years old historical organization devoted to the cause of brotherhood and welfare of the people of this region. Usually this event came as a welcome change displaying the age-old Dogriyat when the prominent members of the civil society representing all walks of life used to be seen together for a humane cause in their traditional mutual love and brotherhood across any communal, linguistic or
regional differences under the banner of DSS.
The event was held at a low key to avoid crowding in light of the COVID-19 restrictions. The most enthuastic participants, the children from various schools and colleges were conspicuous by their absence. Nor could the Panches and Sarpanches come in large number to grace the occasion. The event was presided over by president Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) Th. Gulchain Singh Charak who was accompanied by distinguished citizens, luminaries, members of the DSS core group and representatives of various Panchayats and Numberdars/ Chowkidars associations.
Speaking on the event, former minister Th. Gulchain Singh Charak said that besides saving the tiny lives of the birds the event is also a reminder to the humanity to save water, which is getting scarce and costlier throughout the world over. The predictions are that the futuristic wars may be fought over water. He requested the participants to keep the �hang pots� filled up with water and placed conveniently for the birds to quench their thirst in free from fear surroundings.
He also called upon people to save precious potable water and adopt rain water harvesting for use in non-drinking activities.
Earthen hang pots were distributed among the participants with the request to further pass on these to their friends, relatives and neighborhoods.
The event was attended by Sh. P. S. Gupta, Madan Rangila, Janak Khajuria, Amanat Ali Shah, Gambhir Dev Singh Charak, Samar Dev Singh Charak, M. S. Jamwal, Madan Bhagat, Qadir Hussain, Jagdeep Singh, Rajiv Kumar, Chhankar Singh, Naseeb Chand, Ranjit Singh, Mukhtiyar Singh, Sandeep Kumar, Rajinder Kumar, R. K. Vaid, Prithviraj Vaid, Karan Singh Manhas and Balwinder Singh.
