Judicial inquiry sought in a murder case

All India Confederation of SC ST OBC Organisations, J&K held a protest seeking a judicial inquiry into the murder of a young SC boy, Rahul Kumar, of Udhampur district. In this connection, different units of the J&K unit of Confederation submitted a memorandum to LG, Sh GC Murmu, Chief Secretary and DGP J&K.
RK Kalsotra, State President Confederation, said that post Abrogation of Article 370, the caste based atrocities are on a rise in the UT. There have been several cases where SC/ST/OBCs and minorities are targetted. The killing of a reputed Sarpanch, Atrocities done to women and the recent case of murder of a young SC boy shows the rising nature. The SC/ST Atrocities Act 2018 has been made eligible for the UT but is still not implemented in true spirit.
The recent case of murder of Rahul Kumar was already being pursued by the Judiciary but the lack of implementation of the act made an innocent face brutal murder on 2nd July 2020.
Kalsotra said that the SC/ST Atrocities Act is a harbinger for safeguarding the rights of vulnerable sections but its lack of implementation is making the community live in fear. In the memorandum submitted to the LG, Kalsotra disclosed that the confederation demanded Judicial Inquiry into the recent murder case with immediate termination of the SHO involved. Confederation also demanded compensation for the family for their loss and registered their discontentment towards the lack of implementation of SC/ST Atrocities Act.
Kalsotra also alleged that the political pressure on the police is also increasing and thus there should be strict checks and balances over such partisanship involvement in the police.
Kalsotra said that the people are protesting against such cases of violence against the vulnerable sections. If the demands are not met immediately, the confederation will be forced to join the protest in large numbers throughout the state.
