BJP too discriminating against Jammu: Rajiv Mahajan

Stating that BJP too, like Kashmir-centric parties in the past, has discriminated against Jammu and its people, Chief Spokesperson of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Rajiv Mahajan said that BJP got a huge mandate from the people of Jammu by making tall promises but all proved as hollow slogans. He said that BJP has played with aspirations and sentiments of the people of Jammu by misleading them with false promises.
Mahajan added that the toll plaza at Lakhanpur will alienate masses at a time when the government was expected to provide some succour to the people who are battling for their survival amid COVID pandemic.
He said earlier the BJP former Minister had dismantled the toll plaza at Sarore on May 6, 2014, terming it was injustice with the people of Jammu but now how they will justify the people of Jammu region.
Lashing out at the BJP for allegedly betraying Jammu residents after seeking mandate on false promises, Mahajan said that since 2014 lakhs of people had joined BJP with an aim to remove the discrimination being faced by the people of Jammu region. He said successive governments have discriminated against Jammu and Ladakh regions in matters related to development and extension of welfare schemes. He said that Jammu too suffered at the hands of Kashmiri leaders, as the elected representatives of political parties from Jammu region don't assert their share.
He emphasized that despite knowing all the facts, the people associated with BJP since 2014 have not raised their voice over the alleged discrimination with the regard to the installation of toll plazas. He said that earlier the Kashmiri leadership had given step motherly to the people of Jammu region now the same is being followed by the J&K BJP leadership to save their political careers.
Earlier, a large number of people from various walks of life on Wednesday joined UDA here. They included: Er. V. K Gupta, R.K Khajuria and Ravi Tikoo, President SpeedBall Association. A few days earlier, dormer Deputy Commissioner of State Taxes Department M.L. Sharma had also joined the alliance.
The new members were welcomed into the party fold by the UDA Chief Spokesperson, Co-Conveners Kulbir Singh Slathia, Bharat Bhushan Gupta and Vivek Wazir.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajiv Mahajan, Chief Spokesperson UDA said that the Alliance with each passing day garnered support as more and more people are joining it in Jammu as they have realized that their interests, the interests of the UT and that of the nation can only be safeguarded by UDA. The people of Jammu region want to defeat the pro-Pak and anti-national forces and hence they are coming into the UDA fold, he added.
The United Democratic Alliance members strongly objected over the functioning of Toll Plaza Lakhanpur, terming it as betrayal the mandate of Jammu people and surrendered all the promises made by BJP with the people.
UDA members appealed to the Lieutenant Governor G C Murmu to immediately abolish road tax at different toll plazas in Jammu region to provide a relief to the people.
