Delimitation on basis of 2011 census not acceptable: Rajiv

Jammu, 11 Aug 2020

Chief spokesperson of UDA Rajiv Mahajan has demanded delimitation based on the 2021 fair census figures for assembly elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
There is consensus in Jammu that delimitation based on the 2011 fudged census figures will deny the people of the province proper representation in the Legislative Assembly of UT of J&K, he said.
The BJP in its bid to further appease Kashmir seemed to be planning to give it a higher number of Assembly seats by cleverly conveying to the people that the population of Kashmir region as per 2011 census was higher than that of Jammu region, he said.
The population of Jammu is more. The land area of Jammu is two-times that of Kashmir. A fair census and delimitation on the basis of the new census figures, nature of terrain and accessibility would give Jammu more seats, he maintained.
Jammu has been denied proper representation in the assembly since 1951. Now is the time to undo the past wrongs and dispense justice to the people of Jammu, said Mahajan.
Centre would surely ask the census authorities to conduct a special census operation in the UT of Jammu and Ladakh before the proposed Assembly elections, he hoped.
He also asked the central government to start all development projects in Jammu region on priority and stop adopting discriminatory attitude towards Jammuites.
Meanwhile, some former bureaucrats of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday joined United Democratic Alliance (UDA), here.
Welcoming them to the party fold, Chief spokesperson of UDA Rajiv Mahajan said that after playing a brilliant inning as public servants, they will contribute for development of the J&K and welfare of the people.
"We welcome public spirited, honest and missionary people in our party to carry forward the mission of the party with vigour and zest for making Jammu and Kashmir a prosperous, progressive and peaceful UT," Rajiv Mahajan said.
The party will definitely benefit from the experience of former bureaucrats in public life. Their acumen for administration will benefit the party, he said adding, I am hopeful that they will make the party stronger at grass roots.
On the occasion, newly joined members maintained that the sincerity of thought of the party obliged them to join UDA. They vowed to take forward the mission of the party.
Those who joined UDA include Varinder Gupta (Retd. Special Secretary), R.C Puri (Retd. K.A.S), Sushil Singh Jamwal (Retd. General Manager J K Cement), Sheikh Sajjaad Poonchi (Retd. Principal) and Shashi Bhushan Sharma (Contractor).
The UDA members present on the occasion included Col. (Retd.) S.S Pathania, (Retd. DC) Vijay Sharma, Er. V.K. Gupta (Retd. SC), Kulbir Singh Slathia, Bharat Bhushan Gupta, Prem Sharma, Varnider Singh Billawria, Jaswinder Singh (Kuku), Ravi Tikku.
