Decomposed body of AIIMS doctor found hanging at his residence

40-year-old doctor working at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi has been found dead at his residence. According to the police, Dr Mohit Singhla's body was hanging at his home in South Delhi's Gautam Nagar. "A PCR call was received in the police station Hauz Khas at 3:10 PM that foul smell was coming out from a house in Gautam Nagar. On the spot, a decomposed dead body of a male person was found hanging in a room locked from inside, on the second floor," Delhi Police said in a statement. The body has been sent for a post-mortem. The police said that the deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Dr Mohit Singhla, who worked in the pediatrics department of AIIMS-Delhi. Dr Mohit Singhla had last reported for work on August 11. The deceased hailed from Panchkula in Haryana and has been living alone in the Gautam Nagar accommodation since 2006.

Third doctor death for AIIMS-Delhi since July

This is the third incident of AIIMS losing a doctor to unnatural death since July. On July 10, a 25-year-old junior doctor had died by suicide at AIIMS-Delhi by jumping off the 10th floor of the hospital building. According to sources, the doctor was suffering from depression. On August 10, a second-year medical student died by suicide after he jumped off the roof of the hostel inside the AIIMS-Delhi campus.

India's premier medical institute has also registered three patient deaths by suicides since June.

On June 5, a 22-year-old man was found hanging from the railing of the second-floor staircase at AIIMS-Delhi. He was suspected to be suffering from depression. On July 6, a 37-year-old journalist, who was undergoing treatment for Covid-19 at AIIMS Delhi, had died after he jumped off the fourth floor of the hospital. On July 17, a 32-year-old man was found dead in the bathroom of the hospital's emergency wing. A resident of Satna in Madhya Pradesh, he had come to the hospital for a follow up on his intestinal surgery conducted last year.
